2005-06-12 |
Barry Bonds has won world records, but now the baseball that got him there will get its own name in history books. That unforgettable 700th homerun Bonds hit has now been sold by public auction. Sothebys New York sold that baseball for $85,000 to its biggest fan, Sportsbook.com.
Sportsbook.com is the worlds largest sportsbook, as well as online casino. Sportsbook is donating the ball to Cooperstowns Baseball Hall of Fame. In the purchase itself, Sportsbook has elevated its elite status.
In a statement, Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director of Sprotsbook.com, was more than please with this addition. Very few members of baseball society have reaching 700 homeruns, such as Bonds. Only Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth have achieved 700 homeruns and now Barry Bonds too. The ball is history of that event, a symbol of achievement. The purpose of the ball is to be in a hall of fame. The best place for the ball is in Cooperstown.
Sportsbook.com and the Hall of Fame have been on communication on this transfer. Sportsbook hopes that, they will be able to debut the ball, sometime this year. Before such time, the ball will tour around the United States, for fans to see the ball before it retires in Cooperstown. Majors fans hope to get a picture of the ball, as t heir own personal history. In the next few weeks dates and cities of the tour will be mentioned.
The purpose of the tour, as Czajkowski puts it is so everyone can see the ball, even if they cant come to Cooperstown. After all the ball is for the fans, it is baseball history. Sportsbook bought the ball for that reason.
